Bowie's signature at the ruins of the San Saba Presidio? Probably not. |
I have admired this portrait of Bowie countless times and just snapped to the fact that he is grasping what appears to be a huge Bowie Knife in his right hand. Where is that fearsome blade that should be protruding below his left elbow? Too gruesome to show in polite company?
ReplyDeleteYes, the awkwardness of how the blade was painted has caught many folks off guard over the years. I have no idea why the painter didn't extend the blade out under his crossed arms. Very curious indeed.
DeleteBrass knuckles?
ReplyDelete^^^
DeleteConcealed carry.
ReplyDeleteI think the artist just didn't finish the painting LOL
ReplyDeleteIt might be a sword. He was a commissioned colonel in the Texas militia.
