Remembering Goliad with some Texian Macabre

Howdy y'all! Welcome to another exciting and slightly quirky episode of The Texian. Today we talk with our favorite, and thus far only guest host, Dr. Stephen L. Hardin, about his outstanding book Texian Macabre. It's a creepy yarn, following a fortunate survivor of the infamous Goliad Massacre to his unfortunate demise at the end of a hangman's rope in the new town of Houston. It paints a fascinating portrait of the early days of the Texas Republic and the seedy underbelly of the new town. But we start off with some background on the Goliad massacre, sharing some eyewitness accounts, and try to figure out why everyone remembers the Alamo, but so few today seem to remember Goliad. It's such a tragic story in it's own right, I feel like we will be returning to it time and again for future podcasts. Hope you enjoy! We've also got a new track from our musical composer, Jonathan English with an appropriately creepy vibe. Now sit back, relax, and let's plunge into the action packed annals of our Texas history!

I've also added some of my own pictures that I've taken at the Coleto Battlefield site, Presidio La Bahia and the grave site of the Goliad martyrs. I highly recommend a trip in mid Spring when the Texas countryside is afire with our famed wildflowers. Go pay your respects to those who died for Texas.

Some of the non-classical music used this episode... Awesome copyright free pieces by Ross Bugden: Epic Chase Music, Adventure/Western music and The Wasteland. The Gunfight by Everet Almond was also used. Check out all their great work on Youtube!
